This may surprise you. I see a therapist. Yah, about every 3-6 weeks.
I share this with you because it’s not something that comes up naturally. And I hear a bit from people that I have everything together. Or so it seems.
Reminder, social media is a highlight reel. We are the star of our own life. We show what we want.
I choose to be fast paced. To show the best sides of my life – and once in a while, a vulnerable side. But I don’t like to show that side in bulk – to everyone. I like talking to those close to me the soft side of me. It’s okay.
My therapist wants me to slow down – to work through my thoughts. Think about life. For me, I think it makes it worse. So, I tend to clean, pick up the house, mow the lawn, do yard work when I’m down on life – so be careful is the house seems extra clean next time you stop by – HAHA! I will feel better about life that way. I was productive and I don’t let myself slip too far from reality and the good things going on in life.
I share all of this with you because it is important to remember to celebrate our successes and take care of ourselves first.
You don’t have to celebrate the same way as everyone else.
You don’t have to care for yourself the way others tell you too.
You need to celebrate how you want to.
You need to care for yourself in the way you know how and works for you.
We are all different humans on this planet that have different ideas, different perspectives, and different ways that work for making ourselves to feel better.
I will agree that it can be valuable to try something new. You might learn more about yourself through new ideas. I tried a full day of yoga with group sessions on thought process and loved it. I tried tarot cards and readings with the universe, loved it. I went through guided group therapy in the woods, really loved it! New ways to try to figure out life. I’m glad I did. I am growing with these experiences.
These might be better than when I used to throw on a pair running shoes and go out for 2-3 hours to run while listening music in the rain. Maybe not. It doesn’t matter. I have changed as a person and the same things that make me feel better now aren’t the same 10+ years ago. I have evolved to who I am now and what to be in the future.
You can too.
The past is behind us. Learn from it. Please.
Today is now day one of your new life. You get to take all your experiences and alter your future for the better. That’s life. And I hope you plan on making it a good one, in whatever makes you feel better about your future.
